Minister to be briefed on allegations against two Dublin creches

The Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald has said she expects to be briefed today on the childcare controversy to hit two creches in Dublin.

The HSE and Gardaí are continuing with their investigations into allegations of the mistreatment of children at two crèches in the capital.

One facility has confirmed that it has fired a staff member and suspended three others after footage recorded by an undercover TV reporter came to light.

Ms Fitzgerald said she is taking the claims seriously.

She said: "These are allegations at this point, they have been reported to the HSE and the gardaí, they are being investigated.

"We will examine precisely what has happened here and the creche owners, the childcare providers have taken, it would appear, very urgent action as soon as they became aware of the issues that have arisen in these situations."
