Minister for Children, Brendan Smith has published the terms of reference of the independent inquiry into the deaths of the Dunne family in Co Wexford last year.

Adrian and Ciara Dunne and their daughters, Lean, five and Shania, three, were found dead in their house in Monageer last April.

It later emerged that the couple had visited an undertaker in New Ross to plan their funerals and those of their daughters.

The inquiry being overseen by barrister Kate Brosnan, which begins its work today, is expected to take three months to complete.

It will examine the circumstances leading to and surrounding the deaths of the Dunne family and make recommendations to the Government about how such an event may be avoided in the future.

It has also been asked to identify the services sought or required by the family and to investigate the way in which the way in which these requests were responded to.
