Minister for Justice receives final report in Dean Lyons case

The Minister for Justice has received the final report from the Commission investigating the Dean Lyons case.

The Minister for Justice has received the final report from the Commission investigating the Dean Lyons case.

Arrangements are being made for its publication in early September.

It was investigating how Dean Lyons came to be charged killing two women in the grounds of Grangegorman hospital in 1997, why the charges were later withdrawn and why no-one else has been charged with the murder.

Another man, already serving a life sentence for a different double murder, Mark Nash, confessed to the killing but later withdrew his confession.

The Department said will not comment on whether articles on the contents of the report published in one newspaper today are accurate or not.

It said anyone identified in the report will have received a draft copy of it by now, but anyone caught leaking its details could face a three hundred thousand euro fine or five years in jail.
