Met Eireann issues snow-ice warning

Met Eireann has issued a snow-ice warning - with snow already reported in parts of Leinster this morning.

The forecaster has said there will be sleet and snow showers ranging between 1 and 3 centimetres - especially on high ground - across Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

The weather alert is in place until 10am.

Joanna Donnelly is a Meteorologist with Met Eireann.

She has said the rain will clear later this morning but it will remain cold throughout the weekend.

“We have showery rain, sleet and snow moving in on eastern parts of Ulster and then down across Leinster this morning.

“We have got reports of snow from a couple of our stations now and we are expecting that to continue for the next few hours across the east and parts of Leinster too.

“It will be short-lived but there could be some traffic disruptions now this morning.”
