The community of West Mayo is coming to terms with the news that a young man from the area died in a road traffic accident in Australia on Friday.

The community of West Mayo is coming to terms with the news that a young man from the area died in a road traffic accident in Australia on Friday.

Kevin Moran, in his early 30s, is a native of Cushlecka, Mulranny, County Mayo and was living in Australia.

The well-known local man was noted rugby player.

He was an underage star with Connacht and was a key player Westport Bulls.

He was also a talented soccer player and starred with Achill Rovers for a number of seasons.

Speaking to Mid West Radio, the President of the Westport Bulls Rugby club, Declan Dever, paid tribute: “He was a class rugby player and he was proud of his Westport links no matter where he was.

“Everyone in the club, whether they were coaches or vice presidents, they were all very proud of Kevin.”
