Support for Fine Gael is down two to 28%, Sinn Fein are on 19%, also down two, while Labour are unchanged at 7%.

Speaking in Waterford this morning, Fianna Fail Leader Micheál Martin said polls will change and the only one that matters is on February 26.

“Opinion polls will come and go, and they’ll be up and down,” said Martin.

“The bottom line for us is the more underlying mood out there amongst the electorate. Which is basically is one of ‘we want change’, ‘we believe we have a choice’ and they want a fairer and more decent society in Ireland.

“That’s what’s coming across on the doorstep.”

Fine Gael for their part have said they will not be complacent in assuming it will win the General Election.

That is the verdict of Enda Kenny who is reacting to a new opinion poll showing falling support for his party.

“Well I don’t comment on polls but I’ll say this to you, it certainly will remove any complacency from the ranks of the Fine Gael,” said Kenny.

“And it is very far removed from any talk about coronations. This is a case, actually, where it’s going to fire up the Fine Gael organisation around the country.

“They know they’ve got to fight for the right for Fine Gael to be re-elected as a Government and that’s what they’ll do.”
