A young man's body has been found in Ennis, Co Clare in open ground.

A young man's body has been found in Ennis, Co Clare in open ground.

The discovery was made at about 7am today in the area of Cappabeg, about five miles from Ennis.

The dead man is thought to have been in his 20s.

A man in his early 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being detained in Ennis garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The area is currently sealed off pending a Garda forensic examination and the body remains at the scene. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have been in the area of Cappabeg between yesterday evening and this morning, or who may have information to contact Ennis garda station on 065-6848100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any garda station.

Investigating Gardaí believe a number of taxis were in the area of Cappabeg last night and are appealing to them to contact them.
