A man has been sent forward for trial accused of having sex with a child in the Dublin Mountains.

The man, who is in his 50s and from South Dublin, appeared in court on bail today.

The offences allegedly took place somewhere on the southside and in the Dublin Mountains between June 1, 2008, and July 27, 2008.

The man is facing seven counts of having sex with a child under the age of 17 over that two-month period.

He cannot be named for legal reasons and appeared in court on bail today where he was handed a book of evidence.

The Director for Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment which means his case will be dealt with by a higher court in front of a judge and jury.

The law provides for a maximum sentence of five years in jail on conviction or twice that if an accused is a person in authority.

The 56-year-old was remanded on continuing bail today and is due before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court early next month.
