A 33-year-old man has appeared in court in Co. Donegal, charged in connection with a serious assault and robbery of an elderly man.

A 33-year-old man has appeared in court in Co. Donegal, charged in connection with a serious assault and robbery of an elderly man.

The attack happened at a house in Carndonagh on Friday night.

Lee Mitchell of Windmill View, Letterkenny, appeared at special sitting of Buncrana District Court this afternoon charged with assault and burglary.

A 73-year-old man was attacked in his home, where he lives alone, on the Convent Road in Carndonagh on Friday night.

He was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where his injuries are described as serious.

Investigating Gardaí arrested Mr Mitchell and this afternoon he was formally charged in court.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Harristown District Court on June 6.
