A file will be prepared for the DPP after a man was released without charge last night in connection with a hit and run incident which left a seven year old boy fighting for his life in hospital.

The incident happened in Ballymacoda near Youghal when the boy who was playing near his home was struck by a car, that failed to stop, at around lunchtime yesterday.

The emergency services were alerted and the boy was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he remains in intensive care in a critical condition.

Gardaí began an investigation and traced the car to a 48-year-old old local man, who was later released without charge.
