A 50-year-old man has died after the jeep he was driving crashed in Co Sligo in the early hours of this morning.

A 50-year-old man has died after the jeep he was driving crashed in Co Sligo in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place around 1am this morning on the L6606 at Corballa, off the main Sligo to Ballina road, when a 4x4 went off the road and collided with an embankment.

The driver was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His remains have been removed to the morgue at Sligo General Hospital.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses.
