A man has been killed in a crash on the M7 at Portlaoise.

A man has been killed in a crash on the M7 at Portlaoise.

The accident happened yesterday evening before 10pm.

The 47-year-old man was fatally injured when the car he was driving crashed at Ballymacken, Portlaoise.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body have been removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise where a post mortem examination will take place later today.

The dead man was alone in the car and there was no other vehicle involved in the crash.

The roadway at the scene has re-opened following a forensic collision examination at the scene.
