A man has been killed in an overnight collision in Co Limerick after he fell from one car and was struck by a second.

A man has been killed in an overnight collision in Co Limerick after he fell from one car and was struck by a second.

The accident happened at about 1am today on the N69, Askeaton side of Kildimo.

The 31-year-old victim was fatally injured when he fell out the rear door of a car. This car then left the scene.

The man was then struck by a second vehicle travelling on the same road. This car remained at the scene. The man was pronounced dead and his body remains at the scene.

This stretch of road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí say the road is expected to remain closed until this afternoon. HGVs travelling on this route are asked to use the N21.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the collision or to anyone who may have information relating to a 99 WH registration car, light blue in colour and possibly a Toyota Avensis or a BMW, that the deceased fell from, to contact Newcastle West garda station on 069 20650, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
