A man in his 30s has died after a road collision in Co Laois this morning.

A man in his 30s has died after a road collision in Co Laois this morning.

His 4 x 4 hit a pole on the Ballyfin Road near Mountrath at around 6.20am.

The man's body was removed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where a post mortem will be carried out.

The road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaií are appealing for witnesses to contact them in Portlaoise on 057-8674100.
