Man jailed for dumping friend's body in a ditch

A man has been jailed for three years today for dumping the body of his friend in a water-filled ditch near Dublin Airport.

In April, Alan Harte of Claireville Grove, Glasnevin was acquitted of murdering Peter Gunn but he was found guilty of impeding the prosecution.

When Alan Harte took the stand during his murder trial in April, he admitted helping to get rid of Peter's body, but denied killing him.

The remains of Mr Gunn, a 28-year-old father-of-two, were found 11 days after he was stabbed inside a flat in Cabra Park on Jan 4, 2009.

Alan Harte told the jurors he was innocent and accused his Albanian friend Kastriot Boza of killing him after being insulted by the victim earlier that night.

Mr. Boza said the exact opposite and accused Mr. Harte of stabbing Peter after he made some remarks about his uncle.

In the end, the jury found the accused not guilty of murder but guilty of impeding the prosecution and he was sentenced to six years in jail today, with the final three years suspended.
