Man injured in Finglas shooting dies in hospital

Gardaí in Dublin have declared a murder inquiry, after a man shot in Finglas today passed away in hospital.

The victim, who was in his twenties, was a prominent dissident republican and a relative of the murdered Real IRA member Alan Ryan.

The murder victim was shot a number of times while waiting in a car on McKee Road in Finglas this afternoon.

Superintendent John Quirke says Gardaí are looking for information about the movements of a car used in the attack:

"A silver/grey VW Golf, five-door, which had alloy wheels approached the male who was sitting in a white Golf-type car and a number of shots were discharged at the male.

"The silver/grey Golf then left the scene at speed towards Clune Road and Jamestown Road, Finglas.

"The scene has been sealed off for technical examination which is being carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau at the moment.

"An incident room has been set up here at Finglas Garda Station."
