Gardaí are continuing to question a man in connection with a hit and run in Kildare that has left a man in a serious condition in hospital.

Gardaí are continuing to question a man in connection with a hit and run in Kildare that has left a man in a serious condition in hospital.

The incident happened on Tuesday night on Eyre Street in Newbridge at around 8.40pm.

A 65-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at a house in the town last evening in relation to the investigation and is detained at the local Garda station under section 4 Criminal Justice Act.

The injured man remains in a very serious condition in Naas General Hospital.
