A man in his 70s has died after he was struck by a car in Co Monaghan this evening.

A man in his 70s has died after he was struck by a car in Co Monaghan this evening.

It happened just before 6pm on the N2 at Killmarley, about two miles south of Monaghan town.

The man was seriously injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the morgue at Monaghan Hospital.

The male driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was uninjured.

The road is closed for a forensic collision examination and local diversions are in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed until 12 noon tomorrow.
