Man held in connection with cannabis haul released

Detectives in Dublin have released a man without charge after cannabis was found at a checkpoint in Dublin on Saturday night.

Gardai detected a smell of cannabis during a routine drink-driving test on St. John's Road West at around 10pm.

Following a search of the car, they discovered a medium-sized bag of the drug and the driver - a man in his 30s - was taken into custody.

In a follow-up search at a house in Prosperous, Co Kildare, Gardaí recovered cannabis plants and herb with a street value of around €60,000.

They also seized a cannabis cultivation operation as well as around €30,000 in cash.

A file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
