Gardaí in Co Offaly are questioning a man following the fatal stabbing of a woman at an apartment in Tullamore yesterday evening.

Gardaí in Co Offaly are questioning a man following the fatal stabbing of a woman at an apartment in Tullamore yesterday evening.

The woman, who is believed to be a Brazilian national in her 30s, was found with serious injuries after gardaí were called to the apartment off Tara Street at around 7pm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was also found in the apartment with minor injuries and taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital for treatment.

He was later arrested at the hospital.

The scene of the stabbing has been sealed off for forensic examination and the State Pathologist's office has been notified.

Gardaí have also recovered a bread knife from the apartment that they believe was used in the attack.
