A man is due to appear before Cork District Court today following the murder of a mother of three last weekend.

A man is due to appear before Cork District Court today following the murder of a mother of three last weekend.

36-year-old Darren Murphy of Dan Desmond Villas in Passage West, Cork was charged on Tuesday with the death of Olivia Dunlea O'Brien.

Her body was found in an upstairs bedroom of her house in Pembroke Crescent, Passage West, following a house fire.

However, a post-mortem examination revealed that Olivia had been stabbed a number of times to the upper body.

Darren Murphy was charged with her murder on Tuesday and Judge Leo Malone remanded the 36-year-old in custody to appear again in court today by video link.

Prison authorities were also ordered to carry out a psychiatric assessment of him.

Meanwhile, hundreds of mourners attended Olivia 's funeral yesterday at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Ballinlough.
