A man has died in a house fire in Cork city.

A man has died in a house fire in Cork city.

Emergency services were called to a property at Kelleher’s Buildings, Dillon's Cross in Mayfield at about 4.30am this morning.

It is believed the man in his 70s died of smoke inhalation.

The remains of a man were recovered from the scene and removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination. No one else was injured in the blaze.
