Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Dublin last night.

It happened shortly after 7.30pm, when a man in his 30s was seriously injured after his moped was in collision with a car at the junction of Sherrard Street and the North Circular Road.

He was treated at the scene and taken by Ambulance to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital for medical assessment.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The North Circular Road remains closed at the scene of the crash, and diversions are in place.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and in particular to anyone who was at the crash site when the collision occurred and has not yet come forward.
