A man in his mid 20s is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Wicklow overnight.

A man in his mid 20s is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Wicklow overnight.

The pedestrian was struck on the Killarney road in Bray at around 1am this morning.

He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The road remains closed this morning - both ways approaching Bray town - as Gardaí carry out a technical examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.
