A suspected dissident republican has been charged with the murder of one of Ireland’s most notorious criminals.
Convicted drug dealer Eamon Kelly was gunned down close to his home in north Dublin on Tuesday.
Sean Connolly was tonight brought before the non-jury Special Criminal Court where he was charged with murder.
The 34-year-old was also charged with possession of a Bloc semi-automatic pistol with intent to endanger life and membership of an illegal organisation styling itself as the IRA on December 4.
Kelly, a 65-year-old career criminal dubbed “the Godfather”, was shot dead in broad daylight near his home in Furry Park Road in Killester, north Dublin.
