Man charged in connection with abduction of Mullingar couple

Police in the North have charged a man in connection with the abduction and assault of a couple living in Co Westmeath earlier this week.

Police in the North have charged a man in connection with the abduction and assault of a couple living in Co Westmeath earlier this week.

The couple, who are originally from the North, were abducted from their home in Mullingar on Monday night and transported 120 miles to Derry.

They were both badly assaulted, while the man was also shot in both ankles.

PSNI officers investigating the case have charged a man in his 40s with two counts of unlawful imprisonment, two counts of firearm possession and two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is due in court later today.
