A man is due to appear in court charged in connection with the armed robbery of a shop in Co Clare.

Just after 9am yesterday a man armed with a knife entered the premises on The Market in Ennis and threatened staff.

He fled the scene with a quantity of cash but no one was injured during the raid.

A passing Garda patrol, who was alerted to the robbery, arrested a man and recovered the knife a short distance away near Parnell Street.

A 28-year-old man will appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court 12pm.
