A man in his 20s has been arrested after a serious assault in County Galway this weekend.

A man in his 20s has been arrested after a serious assault in County Galway this weekend.

A 27-year-old was left with head injuries after being attacked on the High Street in Tuam at around 2.30am yesterday.

He was taken to University College Hospital Galway but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as serious.

The man in custody was arrested this afternoon and can be held for up to 24 hours.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the High Street area between 2 and 3am on Saturday to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093-70840.
