A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with a fatal assault in Killorglin, Co Kerry.

The attack on Stephen O'Connor occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning outside a takeaway.

The 32-year-old from the Glencar area had been on life support at Cork University Hospital but later died from his injuries.

The post-mortem examination has been completed but gardai say that details are not being released for operational reasons.

Mr O'Connor's family have asked for privacy at this time.

The man who was arrested this morning is being detained at Killarney garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984.
