Gardaí investigating the killing of a 20-year-old man in Dublin last year have made an arrest, it has emerged today.

Dean Johnston was shot dead as he sat in the back of a car outside the home of his best friend in Moorefield Avenue in Neilstown, west Dublin, on May 25 last year.

Investigating gardaí said they arrested a 23-year-old man in Co Wexford last night.

A Garda spokesman said: “He is being detained at Lucan Garda Station under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.”

Mr Johnston was killed when a man walked up to his friend’s VW Golf car and fired five shots from a handgun into a rear passenger window.

He was hit in the head and shoulder and was later pronounced dead at Tallaght Hospital.

Mr Johnston lived a few doors away from where the shooting happened.
