A man has been arrested by Gardaí over an aggravated burglary in Co Waterford in the early hours of this morning.

A man has been arrested by Gardaí over an aggravated burglary in Co Waterford in the early hours of this morning.

The 20-year-old was arrested by officers who responded to a call about suspicious activity in the Abbeyside area of Dungarvan.

Gardaí say it followed reports that a man armed with a hatchet threatened a household in the area and stole cash and mobile phones.

The suspect is being held at Dungarvan Garda Station , under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
