A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s are due to appear at Dublin District Court in the morning charged in relation to the death of a pensioner in the city this week.

The body of 63-year-old Thomas Horan was discovered at his home in sheltered accomodation in Ringsend two days ago.

Mr Horan had been living for the last three years at Cambridge Court, a housing complex for senior citizens run by Dublin City Council.

Gardaí launched a murder inquiry after a post mortem examination revealed that the man died from internal injuries.

A man and a woman were subsequently arrested - both have now been charged.
