Lynch: Revenue 'need to listen to the public' over tax chaos
Pressure is mounting on the Revenue Commissioners over the payment of the property tax.
The Oireachtas Finance Committee is asking the head of Revenue, Josephine Feehily, to appear before the committee to explain how the scheme operates.
It comes following criticism that some people are being asked to pay next year's tax this month.
The Chairperson of the Committee Ciarán Lynch said he has received a number of complaints from people, and Revenue needs to listen to the public.
Mr Lynch said: "What they're saying, and consistently over and over again, is that payment should be made when payment is actually due.
"The idea of actually paying something now, which actually shouldn't be paid until next year, is causing them a problem.
"This ultimately is a matter for the customer services of the Revenue Commissioners, they do a very good job, they're well respected, but I think they need to listen to the public on this one."
