Lucinda Creighton appeals to TV stations to include smaller parties in leaders' debates

The Renua leader has written to Ireland's three TV stations asking to be included in another leaders' debate.

Lucinda Creighton said it was unfair that so many voters would not be represented at the final RTE debate tomorrow evening.

Only the leaders of Fine Gael, Labour, Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin have been invited to tomorrow night's debate.

Lucinda Creighton said that meant 800,000 voters would not be represented.

"I've written to the director general of RTE, and TV3 and UTV asking them to consider (in RTE's case) including the smaller parties in the debate on Tuesday night, or (to the other TV stations) to seize the opportunity to give a voice to the independents and smaller parties and to ensure that 800,000 people are not disenfranchised," she said.
