Luas drivers criticised as strike continues

There are no Luas services in Dublin again today as the long running dispute over pay and conditions continues.

Yesterday's strike caused major disruption for many people trying to get into Dublin to attend the Easter Rising Centenary Commemoration.

Four more days of action are due to take place in April after drivers voted against a proposed pay deal of almost 19% at the Workplace Relations Commission.

Mark Gleeson of Rail Users Ireland said that these strikes are a major inconvenience for passengers.

"It means that the vast majority of people travelling in from the south of the city, toward the Tallaght and Clondalkin areas have no real ability to get into the city centre," he said.

"The bus option really isn't viable due to the closure of some roads.

"While it impacts people living here, it also significantly impacts tourists visiting Dublin to celebrate this 100-year anniversary of the Easter Rising."
