Local authorities to make decision on Dublin mayor elections tonight

Dubliners will find out tonight if they will get the option of electing their own mayor.

Three local authorities in Fingal, South Dublin and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown are due to decide on whether to put a proposal on the issue to a public vote.

Dublin City Council gave the idea the green light last week, but if any of the remaining authorities vote it down, the plan will be scrapped.

Fingal Mayor, Fine Gael Councillor Kieran Dennison believes the result will go down to the wire in his council.
