The Kerry victim at the centre of a sexual assault case has appealed to others to stand up for their rights.

The 24-year-old woman spoke out about her ordeal, describing how she has been vilified by some members of her local community.

Last week 50 people lined up in court to shake the hand of Danny Foley - the man convicted of the sexual assault.

He was jailed for five years for the assault of the woman in his home town of Listowel two years ago

The 35-year-old bouncer has now formally lodged an appeal against his conviction.

The woman broke her silence this weekend, without revealing her identity, saying she felt "she was on trial", especially when the queue formed in court.

She also called for changes in court procedure so victims would not have to read their impact statements in front of a hostile crowd.
