Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a man in his mid 40s in connection with the discovery of two suspect devices last night.

Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a man in his mid 40s in connection with the discovery of two suspect devices last night.

As part of a planned operation, Gardai searched a house on Maiden Street, Newcastle West at approximately 10.10pm and discovered the two devices.

The devices were found in a rented apartment over the constituency office of Fine Gael TD Patrick O'Donovan on Maiden Street in the town.

Local residents were evacuated while the Army made the area safe.

Gardaí said the devices were not viable.

The man is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Newcastle West Garda Station.
