Lidl Ireland had planned larger store on Fortunestown Lane but decision now under review

Lidl Ireland has said they had planned to build a larger Fortunestown store, but the decision is now under review.

The supermarket chain said it had plans for a new store on Fortunestown Lane but the events of last Friday have stalled the process.

In a press release they stated: "We can confirm that it had been our intention to build a new larger store on Fortunestown Lane. Given the events of Friday last, that decision is now under review. "

The Fortunestown branch in West Dublin suffered severe damage last Friday night when it was attacked during the blizzard conditions brought by Storm Emma.

Six people were charged in court on Sunday in connection to the incident, while three other men were charged with alleged offences that took place in a nearby Centra shop.

Lidl Ireland say they have engineers and consultants on site at the Fortunestown branch and they are assessing the damage causeed.

They say a final decision regarding future plans will be made after hearing their recommendations.

On Monday it was annoucned that the 30 staff members employed in the Fortunestown store have been redeployed to other stores in the area.

A meeting between management and workers was held to arrange for staff to move to nearby stores in order to minimise the disruption to peoples' livelihoods.
