Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has confirmed that Brian Lenihan will be the new deputy leader of the party.

The position had been held by former minister Mary Hanafin, who lost her seat in the General Election.

The former Dun Laoghaire TD confirmed at the weekend that she would not be contesting the forthcoming Seanad elections.

Meanwhile Mr Martin said he will be naming a new frontbench in the coming weeks.

The Fianna Fáil leader is waiting until after the Seanad elections to name a new line-up.
