A television appeal is being screened in Vienna - to try and help trace a young Meath man, missing since yesterday.

Update 5.50pm: A television appeal is being screened in Vienna - to try and help trace a young Meath man, missing since yesterday.

Ross Hanlon (21) from Athboy was last seen around 2am on Friday morning.

He had travelled to the Austrian capital on a trip with some college friends, but became separated from the group during a night out.

"At the moment, the police started an investigation because the two friends went to the police when their friend didn't come home so they reported him missing," said Katharina Weinmann who is an editor with Austrian TV Station O.R.F.

"The police stations in Vienna are now doing a search.

"They are hoping that our reports tonight on our television station will help to find any clues about what is going on here in Vienna with this missing person."

Meanwhile, members of the man's family are now travelling to the Austrian capital to join the search.

Update 9.15am: Young Irish man reported missing in Vienna

A 21-year-old Irish man has gone missing during a trip to Austria.

Ross Hanlon from Co Meath was on trip to Vienna with some college friends when he went missing.

He was last seen in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance to the man’s family.
