Almost 100,000 homeowners rushed to register for the Local Property Tax (LPT) over the bank holiday weekend, it has been reported.

The deadline for postal returns was yesterday with over half a million homes now having registered for the tax, according to the Irish Independent.

That means that just under than one in three homes have now signed up for the payment.

Property owners now have until May 28 to register for online payments or via the LPT helpline on 1890 200 255.
