Labour TD Eamonn Maloney to run as independent

Labour TD Eamonn Maloney has said that he will now serve as an independent for the rest of this term.

The announcement comes months after he decided not to seek the Labour nomination to retain the seat he holds in Dublin South-West.

He said that he objected to the decision to run two candidates in the area, but also that he has significant policy differences with the party. He will now run in the election as an independent.

Deputy Maloney is a first-time TD and the only member of Dáil Éireann not to claim any expenses.
