Labour Senator set to join Budget rebels

Labour is expected to lose another member of its Parliamentary Party today.

Limerick Senator James Heffernan is expected to vote against parts of the Social Welfare Bill in the Seanad later today.

It follows the decision of Party Chairman Colm Keaveney to vote against the Bill in the Dáil last week.

The Government is still likely to win the vote on the Bill which paves the way for cuts in child benefit, and the carers' grant.
