Labour Affairs Minister calls for flexibility in wage negotiations

The Minister for Labour Affairs has called on employers and trade unions to be more flexible when involved in a wage-bargaining process.

Speaking at a Labour Relations conference, Minister Dara Calleary said the challenge lay in ensuring that wage-fixing mechanisms did not have a negative impact on economic performance and employment levels.

The Minister also spoke of the concern that wage-setting mechanisms have proved unresponsive to adverse labour market conditions.
