Killarney streets to be covered

Selected streets in Killarney in Co Kerry are getting a roof.

Ireland's top tourist town typically gets twice as much rain as Dublin and to combat the problem, there are plans afoot for a tent-like canvas to be erected over the town's busiest streets.

It is hoped the canopy would encourage locals and visitors to continue shopping and enjoying "outdoor" events, even when it rains.

Former Kerry goalkeeper and Killarney engineer Paudie O'Mahony suggested to Killarney Town Council to support the project to install the street covers.
