Kerry Group concerned about damage from horsemeat scandal

The Kerry Group has said it is concerned about the potential damage to Irish food exports as a result of the horsemeat scandal.

McAdams Foods in Monaghan was identified as having imported raw materials for beef burgers that contained horsemeat.

Kerry Ingredients & Flavours EMEA is one of three divisions in the global company, which is poised to establish an international research centre in Naas, Co Kildare.

Speaking to KFM, its CEO Eoin O'Connell said the horsemeat situation, which was potentially damaging, had to be resolved.

"We had the initial news a few weeks back. What's concerning is that there was more news last week," he said.

"It's dragging on at this stage…The concern from my perspective is that there's going to be more on this. It has to be handled expeditiously because this has the potential to do damage to food in Ireland, and food is our biggest export."
