Kenny: Govt's cancer-treatment delays a 'hoax'

The Health Service Executive says events have overtaken plans for nationwide radiotherapy services by 2011.

It says approval for interim facilities at Saint James' and Beaumont hospitals in Dublin has put the timetable back two years.

Confirmation that the €400m plan has been delayed was leaked.

Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny said the latest revelations show that the Government's plans for cancer treatment are a complete hoax.

It's the latest fiasco from this Government. This is about people's lives and the one thing cancer patients don't have is time.

Kenny added: "Early diagnosis and early prevention saves lives and what happened here is that this plan put forward by the Government is a complete hoax."
