The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said Ireland intends on taking a major step towards recovery this year by exiting the bailout deal.
Mr Kenny made the comments after talks with the 27 EU Commissioners in Dublin Castle as part of the EU Presidency.
The Taoiseach said he told the College of Commissioners that Ireland's recovery is in the interest of the wider European Union.
However, he said securing a deal on the country's banking debt will play an important role in the process.
Mr Kenny said: "The solidarity that we all speak of, as I said to the CSU in Bavaria this week, is a two-way street and that for Ireland to exit the programme successfully we do need a conclusion to the negotiations on the promissory notes on the one hand, and the conclusion in the discussions on the banking deal arising from the decision of the 29th of June."
