Justice Minister welcomes referendum result

Justice Minister Alan Shatter has said that today's referendum result is a "cause to celebrate".

The constitutional amendment was today passed by a margin of 58% Yes to 42% No, although just more than a third of the electorate voted.

"I spent about 20 years of my life advocating this constitutional change," he said.

"I'm delighted with the result, I think it's a cause to celebrate, we finally recognise children's rights in our Constitution."
